Important Note:  Sunshine Day Camp has one Preschool location, Fair Oaks, and will be closing that program indefinitely at the end of this school year 2021-2022.  The move to terminate the Preschool program comes because of lower preschool demand at our location, and increased need for more spacing for our TK-6th grade school-age program.

Sunshine Day Camp will continue to offer school-age programs (TK-6 grade) at all seven of it’s Santa Clarita locations, including the Fair Oaks location (view locations here).

Preschool Curriculum

Introducing the Three Components of Learning

Unique to Sunshine Day Camp’s preschool program is our “Three Components of Learning.” This concept provides children with a balanced approach to preparing for the challenges of kindergarten and elementary school.

1. Socialization

The classroom is an ideal environment for children to learn how to cooperate and share with their peers. Whether it’s learning to build a house with blocks or playing imaginative games on the playground, children are encouraged to work together in a positive and considerate way.

Socialization is accomplished through:

  • Indoor free play
  • Outdoor free play
  • Activity centers
  • Snack/lunch
  • Share circle
  • Dramatic play

2. Academics

At our preschool, children are gradually taught simple academic concepts starting with shapes and colors. Then, they move on to number concepts, alphabetic letter and sound recognition, and perfecting their penmanship. Our teachers demonstrate concepts through visual, auditory, and physical activities. The secret ingredients to our success are creativity and fun—setting the stage for a true love of learning.

Academic achievement focuses on:

  • Pre-reading skills & Literature
  • Phonics & Oral Language
  • Penmanship
  • Math (Number Concepts, Geometry)
  • Social Studies
  • Science (Life, Earth, Health, Colors)
  • Physical Education
  • Art & Music
  • Computer Skills

3. Character

Developed by the founders of the school, our character curriculum is built into the very fabric of Sunshine Day Camp, teaching children personal responsibility, respect for others, and the value of compassion and caring. Each month, our entire school focuses on a particular character trait and its definition. Children are encouraged to be respectful, kind, polite, honest, and fair. When they display these traits, they receive praise and positive reinforcement. Sunshine Day Camp teachers work very closely with parents in reinforcing these character traits both in the school and home environment.

Childhood is a journey, and education and character-building are continuous processes. The journey doesn’t end when your child enters kindergarten, 3rd grade, 6th grade, or 8th grade. It carries through adulthood.

Our preschool program is the first step, helping young people reach their potential.
